Password screen: keyboard disappears when rotating the screen

Jeremy Cutler 8 years ago in General updated by Alexander Blach (Developer) 8 years ago 3

This is related and sort of not related at the same time. I have the latest version of Textastic 5 (both the iPad version and iPhone version). Every time I launch the app, with the password protection feature of Textastic enabled, I have to be super careful not to rotate the screen. If I accidentally rotate the screen (on either version) the keyboard will not pop up anymore. Having searched for the previous version on the app store (and not finding it), I have no clue how I am supposed to get this issue resolved (besides dishing out another $9.99 for it). I am not a happy customer.

I cant count how many times I couldnt delete selected text

Ladislav Nevery 11 years ago in General updated by Alexander Blach (Developer) 11 years ago 10

Using whole screen real estate and thanks to that only few scrolls I select text I wanna move/delete just to find out that there is no way to do it.

Selecting and deleting/moving text is basic operation we use milion times a day.

I found out that only way to do it is by ugly unintuitive hack.

So I need to doubletap to deselect this tediously selected text to show keyboard on half a screen for having cut command finally in selection menu.

But keyboard (that is absolutely not needed for select and cut)

will reduce already miniscule sceen to half. that is jus few lines of text being visible now. reducing previously simple and intuitive selection operation to absolute scrolling hell with milion taps needed to reach bottom of text.

And one bad tap timing will instead of scroll deselect hard obtained selection and you can start again.

deleting/cut text operation is essential for text editor.

When this operation is missing in text selection menu than its bug and serious usability hindrance.

Please fix it. I belive tousands will be eternaly gratefull and a lot of productivity time will not be wasted.

Thank you.

Ladislav Nevery

Answer

The next version of Textastic will allow cut and paste even when the keyboard is not up.

Write line numbers to file

Olaf Kolle 12 years ago in General 0
In some cases it would be nice to have the option to save a file with a line numbering included. The line number step should be user selectable. Also it should be selectable how many spaces should follow the line line number or if a tab should follow.Kind regards,Olaf

Textastic 5

Myako Toudai 12 years ago in General updated by Alexander Blach (Developer) 12 years ago 1

Hi Alexander,

long time without any messages of textastic development. If I'm allowed to ask, is a version 5 in development or planned or is the version 4 the last one.

Thanks

Greets Alex

Which regular expression engine?

Benct Philip Jonsson 11 years ago in General updated by Benct Philip Jonsson 8 years ago 3
Thanks for a great app! I have some questions regarding regular expressions, though:

- Which regular expression engine does Textastic use?
- Where can I find the syntax spec?
- What is the right syntax for including captures in the replacement text?
- Can I use case modifiers like \U \L \u in the replacement text?

TIA for the answer which I hope end up in the FAQ/manual! (Is there a FAQ distinct from the manual?

Longer tab widths

Ted Chew 9 years ago in General updated by Ken_P 5 years ago 2
It seems the tab width currently tops out at 8, but this is insufficient for certain programming languages. Assembly languages in particular can have instructions of more than 7 characters. That means the instruction arguments will no longer line up in a column making the code difficult to read. I use a tab width of 12 in those cases, though ideally, it would be possible to enter any width within reason

Document picker error

maurizio manuguerra 9 years ago in General updated by Alexander Blach (Developer) 9 years ago 3
This is driving me crazy.
On my IPad Air, I edit files on a server using the document picker and Transmit (sftp connection). So far so good.
I have a second iPad where the same workflow doesn't work: I select the "Open.." Menu, then Transmit as file provider, the connection is established, I can browse the files on my server but when I want to open one (whatever the extension) I get the message "The plug-in returned an error. Could not connect to server xxx." Please note that the server detail are the same on both iPads as they are synced with Panic sync service.
Beyond the fact that an identical workflow works on the iPad Air (same versions of everything), the crazy part is that:
1. If I use a different file provider, e.g. Working Copy, it works
2. If I use a different text editor, e.g. Koder, it works.
3. If I offer the file to Textastic from Transmit, it works.

Of course I have tried to reboot the iPad, uninstall/install both apps, with no effect.
I also tried the same workflow on the iPhone: it doesn't work as well.

Has anyone any idea of what is going on? I found no info search for this problem on the web.
