Instead of downloading a file, you make a quick edit and on save it “reuploads”, and the tab can be marked as ‘remote’ so it’s not confused with local files. This would be useful for files you may regularly or occasionally update that you don’t need/want locally. .htaccess would be the #1 file I would use this for. It is annoying to have to download it, close the Transfer window, open it, all to edit it and reupload it. Saving the first two steps of having to download and close the Transfer window could save a lot of time, and now that it’s edited and marked with ‘remote’ I can still immediately access it. Just speculating :D

*edit*
Now that I think about it, this happens a lot more than I realized… I find myself running into more problems mistakenly updating old/outdated files and accidentally overwriting new files, compared to if I could just edit the file on the server and not worry about the local version until I’m ready to revamp it. This helps more with versioning in my opinion, as an outdated file I don’t want to touch is probably not needed locally or is being planned for a total overhaul later on.
Adamhttps://feedback.textasticapp.com/users/2063-adam/topics/tag:feedback.textasticapp.com,2024-02-25:/communities/1/topics/3779-is-column-blocking-available/2024-02-25T14:19:32+00:002024-02-25T14:19:32+00:00Is column blocking available? Syntax support is close to MediaWiki, but any additional syntax support would be awesome as well.

My main suggestion: I was wondering if following links could be added. Feature might need some tweaking to not introduce unexpected behaviour, so maybe a second tap to confirm a link follow. This feature could also be extended to html, including opening associated css and other linked content, and while I think about it, source code includes and imports like include "code.h" and import banana, or from banana import skin. Some links might need hints to follow links, for example MediaWiki links would not include the .wiki extension; Python could be interesting in searching for banana.py and banana/__init__.py.

I would think in most cases only the text that applies to the linking would be active, like code.h and banana in the above examples. UI clues could just be an underline of some type. When a link can't be followed, I would think the software simply doing nothing (other than potentially adjusting the cursor location) and not notifying the user is better.

Linking it external content, like triggering a web browser is in the realm of nice to have; and also recognising a URI and triggering from there could also be useful.

Alexander Blach replied:
mabshttps://feedback.textasticapp.com/users/4669-mabs/topics/tag:feedback.textasticapp.com,2024-01-26:/communities/1/topics/3801-support-for-downloading-and-viewing-files-beginning-with-a-dot/2024-01-26T11:17:22+00:002024-01-26T11:17:22+00:00Support for downloading and viewing files beginning with a dot [ideas] [under review]
Textastic doesn't view files that begin with a dot.

Also if I download 2 files with the same name that both start with a dot, upon attemtping to view (or edit) the second file, it goes back to trying to edit the first file.

Alexander Blach replied:

Can you please give me more details? But a-Shell lacks a visual text editor, and Textastic could be its perfect companion.

It just need the following features:

- a button to immediately run/debug a python script in a-Shell (a-Shell allows to select and unlock writing/reading permissions on any iCloud Drive or iPad folder), opening a-Shell and running a dynamically generated bash script to run the python code with arguments.

- specify multiple launch properties when debugging/running the code, generating a bash script to open in the source file folder with a-Shell (for example first clean the file with Black, then run it with the parameters specified in the launch properties config). Multiple launch configurations should be stored for each file.

- Using the bash script passed to a-Shell, give the option to save the console error output in a error.log file with a date that can be opened or kept open by Textastic.

- On iPad there should be the amazing option to run a-Shell window and the Textastic window side by side!
