Print syntax highlighted files directly from within the app.

This is possible with iOS 4.2.

Snippet Library

Hi guys.  Great app.  How about adding a snippet library, though?  I think it's all that's missing for me to purchase & use.

More key sets / configure additional keys

Steven King 14 years ago updated by Alexander Blach (Developer) 12 years ago 37 7 duplicates
Add more key sets and the ability to switch between them easily:

Outline key set:
- Add item (inserts new line and "- " at current tab level)
- Mark item complete (changes "-" to "X")
- Indent selected items (adds one tab level to currently-selected lines)
- Unindent selected items (removes one tab level on currently-selected lines)

C# key set:
- Change < > / \ keys to more commonly-used C# keys (; = | &)

Multiple key set pages:
- Change the left-most key to show the next key set page
- Allow multiple key set pages to be displayed on top of the keyboard in portrait mode

Customizable key set:
- Allow the user to determine which keys to display
Textastic 4.0 will have a new row of additional keys that allows you to enter all available special characters by swiping over them. This eliminates the need for configurable buttons.

update entire directory at once

Noel Rappin 13 years ago updated by Alexander Blach (Developer) 13 years ago 1
It'd be great if you could update an entire directory at once against a source, the way you can currently easily update a single file at once.
Interesting idea! I'll consider it.

ZIP support (zip and unzip files)

Alexander Blach (Developer) 14 years ago updated 11 years ago 22 1 duplicate
Add support for unzipping zip files (for example received as an email attachment and opened in Textastic).

Add support for zipping a directory or files and mailing them back.
Textastic does now support zip and unzip.

Tabs for Open Files / Show list of recently opened files when tapping on the file name

Matt Meng 13 years ago updated by Alexander Blach (Developer) 13 years ago 13 2 duplicates
First off, thank you for the wonderful app. It truly is the best one on the App Store and most well thought out and implemented.

One frustration that I have with it, however, is switching between files that I'm currently using (think of them as open files, or files I am focused on). A normal IDE would have tabs to keep files accessible to the user. This application needs something to that effect.

A great implementation of tabs for this app, which would take up ANY space would be a very similar implementation of the Air Sharing apps navigational breadcrumb list ( see an example at http://cybernetnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/air-sharing.png ).

In that implementation, the user could click on the heading of the file that is located on the top bar in the middle (usually the filename). A list would then show up under the filename with "recently opened files" that the user simple has to tap to reopen. Also, a "close" mechanic should be supplied in case you want to remove it from your currently opened files.

Having this feature would really help me get more out of this already wonderful app and remove a major annoyance.

Edit - Fixed hyperlink.
In Textastic 3.0 you can bring up a list of recently used files by tapping on the name of the currently open file.

There's also a button to close the currently open file.

You can remove individual items from the list or clear the list.

This will be available in the next update.

Hope to add VIM simulation

chuancong 14 years ago updated by Piotr Wodziński 1 year ago 9 1 duplicate
It would be great to have an option for VIM simulation in this app. Another row of buttons could be added to the keyboard containing keys like ESC and others frequently used in VIM. Since this app is mainly used for coding, having a VIM mode which does not requir e any touch on the text would be great for efficiency.

iPhone version

I am looking for a source code editor app for my iPhone.
I think Textastic is the best app that works on iOS 4 in this category.
Textastic iPhone version will be great.

Textastic 6 is a new universal app that works on both iPad and iPhone: https://geo.itunes.apple.com/us/app/id1049254261?ct=feedback&at=11lNQP&pt=15967&mt=8
