Search capabilities are underdeveloped

Schoggi 3 years ago 0

Hi,

I just bought and downloaded Textastic and I must say that I am disappointed about the search capabilities.

I suggest:

- incremental search (has been known and coded since the 70s, means you type "rud" and then "rudimentary" as well as "rude" is a hit, so typing more letters narrows the search down quickly)

- appearance of a side-window where small surroundings of all hits appear, so one need not to go through EVERY hit but simply look at that panel and choose within a second the appropriate one.

Regards,

Pietro

Want an option to increase letter-spacing and line-height

Nitaai Kumar 3 years ago 0

I used a specific font which is the best for me for writing. But it needs more breathing space between its characters and lines both so that I can drown totally into what I am writing and feel inspired to write better.

Please add support for both of these for the Mac app. And please add support for choosing a font and both of these spacing for the iOS app. Thanks.

Compile-on-save for Pre-Processor languages

Del Fan 5 years ago 0

It's impossible to do any web development nowadays without using a pre=processor language - and if we use any of the common frontend frameworks, then it's a MUST. The most common ones are:

  • LESS and SCSS - no frontend developer worth their salt codes directly in CSS, unless forced
  • Markdown, if working with static site generators and blogs
  • Pug and HAML - if working with Node-based CMSs and frameworks
  • Coffescript and Typescript - if working with high-level JS libraries like Vue, React and Angular

The developer then needs to have a whole bunch of tools installed in their system, just to handle all the compilation. If they want to try and do it in a 'nice and graphical' way, they'll end up having to buy multiple tools (like Marked, CodeKit and others), and juggle them as they code. Otherwise, they have to install Node, webpack, grunt/gulp and the like, and spend months learning.

I know this is a very big request, but if Textastic were to be able to COMPILE these languages out-of-the-box, without requiring the developer to instal or learn anything else, that would put it waaaaay ahead of everyone else.

Textastic for Mac needs a User Manual (or if it exists it needs to be off the Help menu)

John Ryan 5 years ago 0

There seems to be a great user-guide for iOS but nothing for Mac.

Even something really basic indicating the key features and where to look for additional info would be great.

For example, the ability to customise the editor needs a quick overview to say (a) What you support (b) Where to find out how to customise it.

Python type hints not supported

Bachsau 7 years ago updated 6 years ago 7

Python 3 supports so called function annotations / type hints. However, Textastic's synthax highlighting seems to not support it.

The synthax is ´def function(var1: str) -> int:´, which results in wrong highlighting the following docstring.

Preview for markdown like the iOS version

Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t see any preview capability on the Mac version.  Use this all the time on the iOS version.

Hex Editor

Alistair Booth 10 years ago updated by Alexander Blach (Developer) 10 years ago 1
Would be extremely useful to be able to switch to a hex editor view of any file. Perhaps even field recognition for common file types, but the ability to dissect and edit at byte level would be awesome.
Great product by the way!

Add support for Fountain

ryancates 11 years ago updated by LittleHouse75 8 years ago 14

Can you please add support for Fountain, the plain text markup language for screenwriting?

Keep up the great work!

Answer
Sorry that it took me so long, but here it is.

I've created a TextMate bundle from the Sublime Text package which is compatible with Textastic.

You can download the bundle from here: http://www.textasticapp.com/support/Fountain.tmbun...

I've also adapted the themes that come with the Sublime Package:
http://www.textasticapp.com/support/FountainThemes...

Please follow the instructions in the manual to use it with Textastic:
Mac: http://www.textasticapp.com/mac/manual/lessons/How..
iPad: http://www.textasticapp.com/v4/manual/lessons/How_…
iPhone: http://www.textasticapp.com/iphone/manual/lessons/...
