The danger with adding features will always be the increasing desperation for more features to refine added features to prevent data loss. The developer originally expressed concerns to me about data loss in regard to an update to how files are uploaded (and has by far been the best update Textastic has seen in a long time), and rightly so. If you can edit files directly on the server, it sounds as simple as uploading the edited file again and checking for success. I'm no official developer though, and honestly I can understand why progress is slow. I'm just thrilled for the update that eliminated that horrible context dialogue box.
I know it's tedious and changes your focus a little, but for manageable projects I'll just go above my root directory and work with temporary files there. Now I have "previous temporary" files without having to ask for a second feature to direct server edit. Considering the new download/upload menu I asked for, it's as easy as uploading that file since Textastic is supposed to remember where it is located in that server.
Sometimes waiting until you desperately need a feature is the best case study you can perform for efficient and bug-free development. I'd love to see extra settings such as being able to select which Textastic interface I want as I use it for all sorts of different tasks and don't always need one or more buttons or menu items. But, it's not needed desperately like the new Download/Upload system was, so if it ever comes it'll be thanks to advances in computing rather than developer decision, and it's tough to accept but it works great for now.
