Hide extended keyboard when hardware keyboard is connected

Maurice Zoliker 4 years ago updated 4 years ago 2

Dear Alexander,

I have a quick question: could you please tell me where is the option for hiding the extended keyboard when a hardware keyboard is connected?

I am pretty sure this option used to be there but I cannot figure out where it is!

If it has been removed, would it be possible to have it back?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Kind regards,

Maurice

Currently, you can only hide it completely by disabling the "additional keys" setting. In the past there wasn't a reliable way (API) to check whether and external keyboard is connected. I don't know if this has changed, but it would certainly be a good feature.

OK, thank you Alexander. Looks like there is the ExternalAccessory framework but I don’t know if it could solve this issue.

An option to hide the additional keys would be great indeed, as I have discovered that right clicking on top of the screen allows to quickly leave edit mode (and go back to "tab mode"), which is very useful, and means that the additional keys are not really needed any more when you have a mouse and an external keyboard.

Kind regards,

Maurice
