Possible to add fonts with anyfont?

Derek 8 years ago in General updated by Alexander Blach (Developer) 2 years ago 8 2 duplicates

I am wondering whether it would be possible to use the app Anyfont to add custom fonts on iOS that Textastic could use. According to the Anyfont app description: "With AnyFont you can install additional fonts on your device which can then be used by other apps which make use of the device's font book."

Does Textastic use the device's font book?

Unfortunately, this is not possible on iOS. All fonts have to be registered in the Info.plist file of an app and this can't be changed once the app is on the App Store.
Currently that's not possible. Only the buit-in monospaced fonts are available.

Currently, the font choices in Textastic for iOS are hard-coded in the app. I'll consider custom fonts for a future update.

Textastic 8 will allow you to select any installed monospaced font. You can use apps like AnyFont or Apple Configurator 2 to install custom fonts.

So while I can't vote on this, I think we should revisit this. Perhaps look at how blink.sh is doing it. They allow you to import fonts which is really nice (as well as themes). And there's no need to use external third-party apps to do it. I believe their app is open source too so that would probably be helpful.

You can now find detailed instructions on how to edit custom fonts in the manual at
