Ability to open a folder - switch between files using a hierarchical file browser

Alexander Blach (Developer) 12 years ago updated 9 years ago 15

Instead of opening files individually, have the user open a base directory. There should then be a file browser that allows the user to quickly switch between files in the selected folder and its subfolders.

This is the one thing that would keep me from using this on a regular basis for all my coding. Is your order of development based on how many votes a feature gets? Or are there certain features *ehem..this one* that you're going to be pushing to the top? Thanks! :)

Well, it's one of the features I miss the most myself, but it's also one with many votes ;) - it's a top priority for me.

That is great. I'm already getting a lot of use out of Textastic, and I have a feeling it's going to be my main code editor one of these days :)

Good to know. I'm using the app as we speak and I like it. Looking forward to your updates!

That was a great feature. One of the  things that happen to me is i open a file, but for any circumstances i need to open one more, so was perfect that i have a possibility to if i open one file can view a file browser of that folder where the file was in. that feature i only found on Coda application.

Is there any plan when this feature will be available. This is the one feature which prevent me from switching completely to textastic.

Really looking forward to this. Does anyone have good (or great) workaround in the meantime? Open files from a regular Finder window - or something more fancy?

How long until this feature is ready?

This is the feature I'm currently working on and many things already work, but there's still a lot that needs to be done before I can release it.

God knows how you find the time to look at this lot whilst developing...

... Anyway, any chance this feature could be extended to use with Working Copy so I could browse and edit an entire repo rather than just one file. Only being able to open one file from Working Copy limits usefulness. e.g. jasmine directory structure is missing so I can't preview runner. Thanks
This is not really the right forum since it is for the Mac version of Textastic, but anyway: Currently, the iOS document picker only supports opening a single file/document, not a folder. However, I'm working with the author of Working Copy to find workaround.
